Rochester Public Utilities Proposes Electric & Water Rate Hikes
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Public Utilities Board today gave official notice of proposed increases for both water and electric service rates next year.
The proposed electric rate increase is 2.5% overall. RPU estimates it will add approximately $2.27 to the average residential customer's monthly bill. Staff is also recommending a new residential electric vehicle "time of use" rate. It is designed to encourage customers who install a secondary meter to charge an electric vehicle to do so during off-peak hours and includes a $250 rebate.
The RPU board also gave official notice of a planned 5% increase in water rates for 2023. The estimated impact on the average residential customer would be about $.75 a month.
Public comments on the proposed rate increases will be heard by the RPU board during meetings on October 25 and November 29. A vote on the rate increases is scheduled for the November 29 meeting.
