Rochester Police Officers Stop Another Suicide Attempt
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - For the second time this month, Rochester police officers are being credited with resolving a suicidal situation.
The latest incident also affected traffic on a busy highway.
An Illinois woman called 911 around 8:15 PM Friday to report her 38-year-old husband was intoxicated and depressed - and standing on the edge of the 2nd St SW bridge over Highway 52.
Police decided to stop northbound traffic on the highway as officers began talking to the man. After a short while, the man was talked into walking away from the edge and officers grabbed him. He was taken to St. Marys Hospital for an evaluation.
In the earlier incident, officers grabbed a suicidal woman who was threatening to jump from the Damon parking ramp.
In both cases, the RPD credited the training the officers received in crisis intervention in resolving the situations.
