Rochester Police – Innocent Explanation for Suspicious Incident
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police say a suspicious incident yesterday afternoon at a northwest Rochester park is no longer considered suspicious.
Police Captain John Sherwin says a Rochester man contacted investigators today and said he had heard radio news reports about the incident and indicated he was likely the person involved in an encounter with a 3 year old girl and her 13-year-old brother at Badger Ridge Park.
The citizen explained he lives in the area and was looking for his son and from a distance mistook the 13-year-old for his child and yelled to him after stopping his vehicle near the young girl. When he saw that the two children were together, he realized his mistake and drove away.
Captain Sherwin says the man indicated he later found his son at a friend's home.

Rochester police are investigating a report from a 13-year-old boy involving a strange man who apparently tried to make contact with his 3-year-old sister Monday.
The boy says the two were at Badger Ridge Park around 4 p.m. when a white SUV pulled up and the male driver asked the girl to come to his vehicle. The boy says he walked over to his sister and the man said “never mind” and drove off. The boy described the man as white and in his mid-30’s.
Police checked surveillance cameras and found evidence of a white SUV in the area at the time.
The park is south of Mayo Medical Laboratories located near the intersection of West Circle Drive and Valleyhigh Road NW.
