Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester Police have identified the teenager suspected of committing the city’s first murder of the new year.

Police Captain Casey Moilanen says 18-year-old Robert Salley Jr. was apprehended shortly before 3 PM Friday as the suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred near the Rochester Community and Technical College campus about an hour earlier. The Rochester teenager was found near the Oak Terrace Estates Mobile Home Park the gun suspected of being used in the shooting was recovered.

Rochester Police, Olmsted County Deputies, and State Troopers launched a manhunt shortly after police responded around 2 PM to reports of several gunshots in the 800 block of 21st Avenue Southeast and found a white male dead from apparent gunshot wounds in the parking of The Quarters of Rochester Apartments. Captain Moilanen says witnesses were able to provide police with a description of a person seen running from the crime scene and led to the arrest of Salley.

He is currently being held at the Olmsted Adult Detention Center on suspicion of second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The victim was a 24-year-old man. His name is not being released until the process of notifying family members is completed.
