The spokesman says 39-year-old Rory Deer attacked the 41-year-old woman inside her car. The woman told police Deer wrapped nunchucks around her neck and began choking her and then bit her near one of her eyes. She began screaming and Deer fled on foot. Officers found him nearby and took him into custody.

The woman lives in La Crescent and told police Deer had called her from La Crosse earlier in the day and asked for a ride to Rochester so he could “detoxify.” He apparently had taken some meth before they met and then drank a bottle of gin during the ride to Rochester.

The woman initially went to St. Marys Hospital but when Deer refused to get out of the car, they were told to go to the crisis receiving center at Zumbro Valley Health Center.
