Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Construction work is scheduled to begin Monday on the long awaited and highly disruptive North Broadway reconstruction project in Rochester.

For the next several weeks, traffic between Civic Center Drive and the Silver Lake Bridge will be limited to one lane in each direction. Caps over Lake Drive in the vicinity of the intersection with North Broadway will also be closed to traffic for the construction of a bypass that will be used for a detour beginning in May.

The Rochester Public Works Department says the detour is scheduled to become active on May 10th when the stretch of North Broadway from Silver Lake Drive south to Civic Center Drive will be completely closed to through traffic. City officials say pedestrian traffic will be maintained using the existing sidewalks or temporary paths and a temporary path for the Silver Lake Trail will also be established for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The nearly $24 million project, which includes the replacement of sanitary and stormwater sewer infrastructure, is scheduled to be completed in September of next year.
