Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man was shot in the foot Monday night near Riverside school.

Police say the 27-year-old man said he was walking across the street around 8 o’clock when he was hit. About the same time, a car was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

That same car crashed into three parked vehicles a few blocks away and the driver was apprehended. He was identified as a 25-year-old Chicago man.  A stolen handgun was found in the crashed car. A passenger who had been in the car was driven from the scene by another vehicle and was still being sought as of Tuesday morning.

At this point, police don’t know if the man who was driving the car was involved in the shooting but say the circumstances are “highly coincidental.” He was arrested on unrelated charges.

The man who was shot was taken to St. Marys Hospital to be treated.

Police say an apartment near the scene of the shooting was also hit by a round. Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says there were several people in the area who witnessed the shooting and "they're lucky they weren't hit."
