Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child hundreds of times over a span of seven years.

46-year-old Avelino Cruz-Munoz was accused of sexually abusing the girl as many as five times a week beginning in 2012 when the victim was 12 or 13-years old. The victim told investigators the abuse began when she was living in Red Wing and continued after she moved to Rochester in 2016. Court records indicate the criminal investigation against Cruz-Munoz began last December when the young woman reported the abuse to an Olmsted County Child Protection Services social worker.

The investigation led to the Cruz-Munoz being charged last December with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, along with one count each of second and third-degree criminal sexual conduct. He entered into a plea agreement in August and pleaded guilty to the second-degree charge in exchange for the dismissal of the three other charges.
