Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man came close to being shot by police Saturday night at the end of a pursuit that began near Assisi Heights.

Police were trying to find 44-year-old Gregory Lovelace for a domestic incident and an officer spotted him driving on Assisi Heights Drive. Lovelace sped off at 40-50 mph and made his way to Elton Hills Dr where he continued driving at a high rate of speed. The officer broke off his pursuit and a short while later Lovelace was spotted parked at Foster Arend Park.

As two officers pulled up, Lovelace began walking away from his car. When the officers ordered Lovelace to stop, he began reaching into his coat. The officers pointed their guns at Lovelace and he began yelling at them to shoot him before he walked away. A third officer arrived with a police dog and Lovelace was apprehended. No weapon was found.

Lovelace was arrested on multiple charges, including DUI.
