Rochester Bar Attack Results in Felony Assault Conviction

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Olmsted County jury has convicted a Rochester man of felony assault charges stemming from an attack on a Stewartville man in a downtown Rochester bar.

The jury returned a guilty verdict against 38-year-old James Halverson on counts of second and third-degree assault. He was acquitted of a first-degree assault charge during a trial that ended Wednesday afternoon in Olmsted County Court. A sentencing hearing has not been scheduled yet.

Halverson was arrested two days after he struck the other man on the face with a beer bottle at Dooley's Pub in the early morning hours of May 8, 2019. The victim, who was 26 years old at the time, required surgery to repair a severe facial laceration.
