Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A prolific drunk driver from the Rochester area is being given another chance to avoid a prison sentence.

45-year-old Bret Christopherson was given a stayed 66-month prison term and was placed on probation for up to 7 years after he entered a guilty plea to a felony drunk-driving charge today. He was also ordered to serve one year in jail or on electronic home monitoring. A second felony DUI charge and 3 misdemeanors were dismissed through the plea agreement with Olmsted County prosecutors.

Christopherson was arrested in late March after he was pulled over by an officer responding to reports of a motorist driving erratically on East Circle Drive and nearly causing a head-on crash. The criminal complaint indicates the officer smelled alcohol and spotted an open can of beer near the driver’s feet and an open case of beer on the passenger seat. A test administered at the Olmsted County jail about an hour after his arrest put Christopherson’s blood-alcohol-concentration at .23

Court records show Christopherson was given a stayed 54-month prison sentence for a 2015 DUI conviction in Wabasha County and placed on probation for 7 years. Records also show Christopherson has been arrested for DUI eleven times since 1991. Four were felonies cases.
