So, there I was, driving down 2nd street when all of a sudden, I see in front of me, a Buick Skylark. Man, I hadn't seen one of those in YEARS! That really brought back some memories about the first car I ever owned. It was a 1976 Buick Skylark. I paid $100 for it (A lot of money for a kid back in 1987) It ran like crap. Had a bad lifter (or so I was told. I didn't know much about cars back then and still don't) The right blinker didn't work. I had to click it on and off manually whenever I took a right hand turn. It also had a pretty bad exhaust leak. The interior always smelled like the muffler was in the back seat. And rust......HOLY CRAP it had a lot of rust. The "fabric" on the interior roof was constantly falling. I remember a friend and I stapling it back up to no avail. It would just keep falling. The seats were pretty tore up too. The whole car was a mess.....but she was drivable.....and the best thing about it? It was MINE..and to me, back then, it was the coolest car in the world.

We put over 4,000 miles on that car over the Summer of 87. Crankin' the Scorpions, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Iron Maiden etc. We'd go to the gas station, buy a soda, some smokes and a couple dollars worth of gas (90¢ a gallon back then) and just "cruise" around town or if we were feeling REALLY lucky, we'd head out of town and just cruise the back roads. I say "Risky" because we never knew when or if the car would just die and leave us stranded in the middle of nowhere. Of course, we didn't have cell phones back then, so getting stranded would have REALLY sucked.  But it never did. It just kept right on moving and it was AWESOME.

That was one of my favorite/most fun Summers ever. Probably because I was driving the coolest car around. Well, to me it was.
