Remember The Last Time Both Minnesota Football Teams Crushed Wisconsin?
If you're having trouble recalling the last weekend when both the Gophers beat the Badgers and the Vikings beat the Packers, you're not alone-- it was a while ago.
It's always big news here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes when the Gophers take on their Big 10 rival, the Badgers. And Saturday, when the Maroon and Gold traveled down to Wisconsin's Camp Randall in Madison... and came back with Paul Bunyan's Axe, it was cause for a celebration.
The Minnesota-Wisconsin rivalry is, in fact, the oldest in college Division 1A football, gophersports.com says. And to find the last time Minnesota came out on top, you have to go back 15 years, to 2003, when Glen Mason's Gophers beat Barry Alvarez's Badgers 37-34 at the Metrodome.
The NFL rivalry between the Vikings and the Packers has been much more even, though. Heck, in their first meeting this year, the two teams tied-- we all remember that, right?
And finding a time the Vikings beat the Packers at US Bank Stadium is as easy as looking at last October when the Packers not only lost the game-- but also lost Aaron Rodgers for the season with a broken collarbone. But to find the time Minnesota beat Green Bay AND the Gophers beat the Badgers in the same weekend, you have to go all the way back to...
October of 1994.
That's right-- over 24 years years ago! As WCCO-TV's David McCoy noted on his Twitter page, it was "October 20 and 22 in 1994 (a Thursday and Saturday). #Vikings beat Packers 13-10 in OT. #Gophers beat Badgers 17-14,"
Back then, Bill Clinton was in the White House, the number-one movie in the country was 'Pulp Fiction,' and Brooks and Dunn had the number-one country song with 'She's Not The Cheatin' Kind.' Yeah, it was a while ago!
