Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A railroad crossing arm system just east of Rochester was knocked out of commission Friday by a copper thief or thieves.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded after receiving reports the crossing arm along County Road 9, also known as Collegeview Road Southeast, was stuck in the down position blocking the roadway. There was determined the source of the problem was the missing 4-foot section of heavy-duty copper wire worth about $400.

A spokesman says a crew from the Canadian Pacific Railway was called to the scene to make repairs and reactivate the crossing arm system.
