Wednesday was a big day for re-opening many parts of life here in Minnesota, including the return of racing at Canterbury Park in Shakopee.

There were few areas of our life that weren't touched by the shutdown due to the coronavirus outbreak earlier this spring. And that includes Canterbury Park, located about an hour and a half away from Rochester in Shakopee, which down before it could even get its season started this year.

But, that all changed Wednesday, June 10th, when Canterbury Park hosted their first races of the season. Here's the thing though: This Minnesota-St. Paul Business Journal story said that admission this week is capped at only 250, limited to the clubhouse level. Track officials are hoping to add more guests soon, to eventually get to a total of around 1,000 spectators.

If you're interested in attending a race, you'll need to make a reservation first, the story noted. And, you'll need to get your temperature taken when you get there, as well as wear a mask while you're there, too. And, of course, the story noted that the venue will be employing social distancing throughout the clubhouse and adding extra cleaning and sanitizing processes as well. (You can read more about them HERE.)

My wife and I like to spend an evening or afternoon watching the ponies run at Canterbury Park. We usually try to head up to Shakopee at least once a year, and while we only bet a couple of dollars, it's still pretty fun to see if your horse wins. (I think the most I won one year was $35-- which at least paid for my beer while I was there.) Along with all the other businesses, I was glad to see yet one more piece of life in Minnesota starting to open up and come back.
