Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - An open house is being held Thursday for a major road project in northwest Rochester.

The city and county are finalizing plans for a major reconstruction of the stretch of 18th Avenue NW between 37th Street on the south and 55th Street on the north.

The project is scheduled to begin this year and will affect traffic.

In recent years, 18th Avenue has become a busy corridor due to the development of areas along and near 55th Street. Transportation planners say there is a lack of pedestrian and bicycle facilities to serve the newer demands in the corridor.

The open house will be held at Rochester Assembly of God Church at 4240 18th Avenue from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.

Residents are invited to stop by and review the alternative designs and construction schedule for the project. Comments and suggestions will be considered as a final plan is developed.
