President Obama’s farewell address to the nation last night (Jan. 10) marked the end of an era. Before the President took to the podium in his hometown of Chicago, fellow Chicagoan Eddie Vedder entertained the crowd with a four-song set.

Pearl Jam’s legendary frontman has been an Obama supporter since his 2008 election as our 44th President. “When Obama introduced himself to the Democrats, he gave us the hope to have something to fight for,” Vedder told Repubblica in 2009. “The night he was elected, I wanted to go out and dance in the street. The next day, Seattle had a rare day without rain, the sky was clear.”

Vedder started out with an acoustic performance of “Rise,” a song from his Into the Wild soundtrack. Eddie then invited the Voice of Chicago children’s choir to help him sing Patti Smith’s “People Have the Power.” The Pearl Jam frontman and the choir finished out the set with Labi Siffre’s “(Something Inside) So Strong” and Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.”

Fans and Obama supporters in the crowd shot plenty of video of Vedder’s performance, so check it out below! [via Consequence of Sound]
