Musically, For Me, There’s No Greater Loss Than Glenn Frey

We were just talking about our favorite albums of all time the other day, not knowing that a few days later, the driving force and the founding member of the Eagles would be gone. The Eagles were my introduction to music at a very early age. From the time I first heard them on 8-track, I was hooked. Hell, I was like 5 or 6 at the time and the only thing I knew about the Eagles was this one album... and I listened to it over and over and over again.

It wasn't until later that I discovered they had MORE music. Once I was introduced to their catalog, that was it. They solidified their place as my favorite band. But by the time I had found all their other music, they had broken up and I thought I'd never see them live. Don Henley said himself that they'd play again "When Hell freezes over."

Well, in 1994, it did. They released "Hell Freezes Over" and I finally got to see them at the Target Center in February of 1995 and it was one of the greatest concerts I have ever seen. Starting out with "Hotel California," into "Victim Of Love," "New Kid In Town," "Wasted Time." The set list couldn't have been better.

And the thing I liked most about it was that they didn't try to change the songs to sound different because they were bored with them. They sounded just like they did on that old-ass 8-track. Amazing. The way they were meant to be heard. Sure, they played those songs thousands of times but they knew the audience wanted to hear them like they were written. Like they remembered them.

Glenn Frey, you will be missed but the music you left for us will live on forever. Truly one of the greats.
