Mississippi River Flooding Gives Restaurant New ‘Swim-Up Bar’
Wanna know just how high flood waters along the mighty Mississippi have gotten in some spots here in Minnesota? Check out what's happening at the Harbor Bar near Red Wing.
The Harbor Restaurant, Bar and Marina is technically in Wisconsin --in Hager City-- just across the Mississippi River from Red Wing. And, as we've all no doubt heard, the waters of the Mighty Mississip are running a little high this spring.
While lower than they initially expected, the National Weather Service has still called this spring's floods one of the "10 worst on record," but says the worst may already be behind us, noting that the river has already crested in Lake City, Wabasha, and Winona. Don't kid yourself-- the waters are still high, though.
So high, in fact, that the Ol Man River has spilled over his banks up there in Hager City, and has now given the Harbor Bar a brand new swim-up bar. Okay, it's actually the same bar that's always been there, but now it's under nearly 2 feet of water, as they posted on their Facebook page earlier this week.
WCCO-TV's Mary McGuire posted some incredible photos of the high water the Harbor Bar is now battling on her Twitter page Tuesday. She noted that the bar's owners, though, have seen this all before-- and said they'll have the bar back open only 2 days after the water recedes. Check out the pictures below...
