Who Captured This Rare Footage?
The Voyageurs Wolf Project, a collaboration between the University of Minnesota and Voyageurs National Park, studies the wolf population of Northern Minnesota. They maintain a large network of more than 200 trail cams, and while they share a lot of wolf videos, they also capture other wildlife, including moose.
A Rare Moose Encounter
The latest spectacular wildlife footage shared by the Voyageurs Wolf Project, captured early in January, shows two bull moose sparring right in front of the camera. Their huge antlers crash together, echoing through the forest.

Video of Nature's Drama
More than 14 minutes of footage of the moose interacting was edited down to a sharable two-minute video. Toward the end of the video, you'll notice the two sparring males being joined by a young bull.
Moose in Minnesota: A Needle in a Haystack
It's estimated that Minnesota has a population of just over 3,000 moose. That's a vast amount of land for such a small population, making this capture in the wild truly remarkable.
Why Do Moose Spar?
Moose sparring helps determine dominance, generally happening in the fall during the breeding season, also known as the rut. This particular altercation seemed relatively non-aggressive, but intense battles can occur.
