YouTuber Breaks Down Albert Lea Shooting
The shooting happened in Albert Lea in November 2020, when police were called to the Shady Oaks Apartments by the shooter himself. When the first officer arrived, the suspect opened fire, hitting the officer.

Despite being shot, the officer calmly called for backup and drove himself to the hospital. As more officers arrived at the scene, they too were shot at and quickly took cover. Not knowing where the shots were coming from, the footage shows just how helpless the officers were in that moment.
Barricaded in an apartment, the shooter continued to fire at anything in sight—including residents of the building. One person was hit in the arm, and another victim, driving past the apartment complex, was also shot.
SWAT Response and Arrest
Multiple SWAT teams responded to the scene. Using drones, one of which was shot out of the sky, officers were able to identify the shooter's location and plan a tactical response.
As officers approached the apartment with an armored vehicle and shot tear gas into the shooter's apartment, the suspect raised his weapon. At that moment, a SWAT sniper fired a shot, shattering a nearby window and distracting the suspect. Police seized the opportunity to move in and arrest him.
Aftermath and Sentencing
All three victims survived and recovered from their injuries. The shooter, 21-year-old Devin Weiland, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and second-degree assault. He was later sentenced to 50 years in prison.
