Minnesota Rep. Omar Among Those Arrested Outside Supreme Court
Minnesota 5th District U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar was arrested today during a protest outside the US Supreme Court.
ABC and other national news outlets are reporting the Minneapolis Democrat was among the group of lawmakers who were detained by police this afternoon following a March from the US Capitol to the Supreme Court building in Washington D.C. ABC News identified some of the other members of Congress who were taken into custody as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Andy Levin, Jan Schakowski, and Katherine Clark.
The media reports indicate the march was organized to protest the recent decision by the US Supreme Court to overturn the Roe v. Wade abortion ruling. After the lawmakers and other protesters arrived at the Supreme Court, they were advised that they were taking part in an illegal demonstration and would be arrested if they did not leave.
At this point, it's not known what if any charges will be filed against the elected officials.
