Minnesota Mom and Year Old Son Killed in Iowa Crash
Spirit Lake, IA (KROC-AM News) - A southwest Minnesota woman and her one-year-old son were killed in a weekend traffic crash in northern Iowa.
The Iowa State Patrol says 29-year-old Mariah Nelson of Jackson was killed when her car collided with a pickup truck Saturday morning at an intersection along Highway 71 about 10 miles south of Jackson and just south of the Minnesota-Iowa border near Spirit Lake. The crash report indicates Nelson went through a stop sign and into the path of the pickup.
She and her son, whose name has not been released, were fatally injured in the crash. Two other children in the car, five and six-year-old girls, were injured and were transported to a nearby hospital.
The driver of the pickup, 63-year-old Alan Weinzetl of Jackson and 58-year-old Teresa Chonko of Jackson, were also injured and transported to the same hospital. Information about their medical conditions is not been released.
