With the 4th of July holiday upon us next week, you’ll see American flags and fireworks all over. And did you know Minnesota is one of the most patriotic states in the country?

That's the word from the gang over at WalletHub, who just did a new survey that gauges how patriotic each state is. And, here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, we're pretty patriotic-- the survey says we ranked #10 on the list of all 50 states and the District of Columbia. (That's quite the improvement over last year's survey when Minnesota placed 33rd!)

So, how did they judge just how patriotic each state is? WalletHub said the survey compared the 50 states across 13 key indicators of patriotism. They looked at everything from the average number of military enlistees to share of adults who voted in the 2016 presidential election to AmeriCorps volunteers per capita.

And things look pretty patriotic here in Minnesota-- we placed first in the category of Civics Education Requirement, and in the top 5 states in other categories including Volunteer Rate (#2), Percentage of Adults Who Voted in the 2016 Presidential Election (#5) and AmeriCorps Volunteers Per Capita.

So what state's the most patriotic in the country? That'd be New Hampshire, who came in at #1 this year. Meanwhile, things are even more patriotic back in my home state of Wisconsin-- they came in ranked as the #6 most patriotic state this year. Our neighbors to the south in Iowa were ranked 30th.
