A Pennsylvania was severely injured after trying to launch a firework from his groin on July 4th, according to the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department.

The report says police were called to a home shortly before 10:30pm Sunday to assist an ambulance called to a firework injury with 'heavy bleeding' in Mount Pocono.

Police said there was a "large gathering" at the home they responded to, and aerial fireworks were being discharged when police arrived.

Officers found Antonio Giannelli inside the house, who had suffered injuries and burns after trying to shoot a rocket from his groin.

37-year-old from Wilkes-Barre was flown by helicopter to a local hospital for treatment.

Four years after Pennsylvania began allowing residents to buy more powerful fireworks, officials said the weekend was marked by injuries, fires, and death.
