La Crosse National Weather Service Confirms More Tornadoes
La Crosse, WI (KROC AM News) - The number of tornadoes that were part of the rare storm system that hit southeast Minnesota and parts of Iowa and Wisconsin Wednesday has risen again.
The National Weather Service office in La Crosse is now reporting a total of 12 tornadoes have been confirmed in its coverage area.
According to information released by the NWS Friday evening, “storm survey teams confirmed four more tornadoes in our forecast area today, bringing the total up to 12- 3 EF-2, 4 EF-1, 5 EF-0.”
Five were confirmed in Iowa, four in southeast Minnesota and three in Wisconsin. The Twin Cities NWS office earlier confirmed three tornadoes in Freeborn County in southeast Minnesota and two in Wisconsin.
And there may have been more.
The Minnesota twisters caused damage in:
- Preston area
- Carrolton Township (Fillmore County)
- Plainview area
- Wyattville (near Lewiston in Winona County)
- Hartland (Freeborn County)
- Alden (2) (Freeborn County)
This marked the first time the NWS has recorded December tornadoes in Minnesota.
