Former White Stripes frontman Jack White and the University of Oklahoma's newspaper got into a bit of a pissing contest recently. White performed a show earlier this month at the University of Oklahoma. The University’s newspaper, The Oklahoma Daily, ran a story on the show, mentioning all that the University had to do as part of having White come and perform.

They also shared information right out of the contract for the concert and found some odd demands, including one that requested a specific guacamole recipe and another that banned bananas from the building where White would be performing.

It seems as though White took exception to that, and might have called the newspaper out on it at some point during his show. Admittedly, the details on this are a bit unclear, but at some point White appears to have shared his displeasure with the situation.

In any case, something happened that led the University's newspaper to publish a follow-up piece, where they 'set the record straight' on the incidents surrounding the concert and their coverage of it, from their viewpoint.

From there, White decided to pen an open letter to journalists and others that, among other things, questioned the journalists involved for not checking facts and explained what was behind some of the contract's idiosyncrasies.

According to White's letter, the guacamole recipe was an 'inside joke' while the banning of bananas had something to do with an allergy somebody on his tour has to them.

The real point of his letter seemed to be to clear the air, to share his side of the story, and to tell people to get over it and move on.

So, will they? Let's hope so. Fortunately, situations like this rarely hold a place in the public's mind for long. On the other hand, it does make for some fun reading. And you may never be able to eat a banana again without thinking of Jack White...
