Today is honestly such a good day! Not only has the weather been warming up and today marks halfway through the week, but today, March 1st is National Minnesota Day!

Yeah! That’s a thing and today is the day to celebrate and appreciate our beautiful state Minnesota!

Minnesota is known for its beautiful wilderness, historic sites, and of course, lakes. But that is not all about the state that meets the eye.

While I have lived here my entire life there are actually many things I did not know about our beautiful state, so I’m assuming the same can be said for many of y'all.

  1. St. Paul was previously known as Pig’s Eye Landing, after the French-Canadian whiskey trader Pierre Parrant, nicknamed Pig’s Eye. Parrant played a role in the founding of the settlement.
  1. Minnesota is home to some of the finest art collections. The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis is considered one of the best contemporary art galleries in the United States.

  1. Minnesota got its name from the Minnesota River, which is of Dakota origin. According to Wiki, in Dakota, Minnesota is a combination of two words: "mní sóta", which means "clear blue water", or "Mníssota", which means "cloudy water". Many places in the state have similar Dakota names.

  1. You can find one recreational boat for every 2.8-3 households. That comes out to over 800 thousand total boats, 7% of the national amount, explains destguides.com.
  1. Despite our 11,000+ lakes, no water flows into the state from other parts of the US. Typically, water flows downstream. Since Minnesota is a northern border state, it's upstream of every US river. Which I guess makes sense.
