Minnesota Mourns: Beloved Bakery Closing For Good

Another beloved Minnesota business just said it's hanging things up and will be shutting its doors permanently.

Business closings are never fun to write about. But another closing has been announced, and this one concerns a beloved bakery here in the Bold North which was once featured nationally on the Food Network.

The popular Thirsty Whale Bakery, located on Freemont Avenue in Minneapolis is owned by Kyle and Megan Baker who started creating delectable baked goods back in 2018. But according to a post on their Facebook page, they just announced that they've closed their doors permanently, effective Sunday, December 3rd, 2023.

Their official website showed their incredible creations including everything from donuts and pastries to cakes and more. 'Tasty snacks. It's what we do.' was their slogan. But apparently, the weight of being a small business in the face of ever-increasing costs was too much for the Bakers to overcome, as Kyle noted on their Facebook page:

This year has been especially hard for everyone, our small business is no exception. I have made the very difficult decision to close the bakery effective 12/03/2023. It's been extremely hard to keep up with the economic changes and I do not see a way for us to continue to operate the same way as we have.

If the Thirsty Whale Bakery sounds familiar to you, it might be because, as BringMeTheNews noted, Megan was featured on the Food Network show, Halloween Baking Championship back in 2021.

With the sudden closing, the Thirsty Whale Bakery's Facebook post did include some specific plans, if you happened to have placed any holiday orders:

If you have ordered a cake through 12/23/2023 we will be fulfilling your order and it will be available for a scheduled pickup. Any Christmas cookie orders that were placed via the website will be fulfilled. Any questions will be addressed via email.
