Minnesota doesn’t mess around when it comes to coffee. Whether you’re grabbing a quick cup on the way to work or settling in somewhere for a while, there’s no shortage of solid options across the state.

So when a list comes out talking about the coolest coffee shops in Minnesota, it’s worth paying attention. Especially when one of the top spots happens to be right here in Rochester.

The list, put together by Best Things Minnesota, named six coffee shops across the state that stand out for their atmosphere, consistency, and overall experience. Some are in bigger cities, others in smaller towns, but all of them have built loyal followings for a reason.

And here in Rochester, that’s especially true. Whether you stick with a familiar chain brand like Starbucks or Minnesota's own Caribou, or you bounce between local gems like Bravo, Café Aqui, Old Abe, and so many more, you've got plenty of fantastic options.

But one Rochester coffee shop stood out enough to land on this statewide list.

That shop is Café Steam.

Café Steam is a locally-owned, sunny coffee shop that caters to downtown Rochester and the Mayo Clinic. Big windows, works from local artists and plenty of seating lure customers in. Great coffee, a friendly staff and live music keep them coming back. - Best Things Minnesota

And clearly, it’s not just Rochester noticing. With three locations already in town and a fourth on the way, Café Steam continues to grow its presence locally, and now, statewide too.

Cafe Steam is also in good company, sharing the list with standout coffee shops from Grand Marais to Mankato, Minneapolis, and beyond. You can check out the full list to see which other spots across Minnesota are being recognized as some of the best in the state.
