4 Wisconsin Colleges Named the Worst in the Country

Choosing a college is a big decision. It's many years of your life, depending on what degree you're going for. It's also A LOT of money. Unfortunately, a recent study says that Wisconsin is home to four of the worst colleges/universities in the entire country.

This study was done by a blog called Avocado Post. To determine the worst colleges in the country they looked at factors like:

High tuition costs

Low graduation rates

Poor return on investment (students don't make enough money for the education to have been worth it)

In total, this list includes the 54 worst colleges/universities in the country.

Exciting news for Minnesota residents, there are no Minnesota colleges or universities on the list!

There is one Iowa college, though.

Worst College in Iowa

The worst college in Iowa, according to this study, is Waldorf University in Forest City.

They ranked 33rd on the list. The reason they're on the list of the worst colleges is because of the low graduation rate (31%) and graduates have an average student loan debt of $28,000.

Worst Colleges in Wisconsin

Wisconsin, however, did not fare well with this study. Let's get into what they determined as the worst colleges.

Up first, ranked 53rd, is Lawrence University in Appleton.

While they have an 80% graduation rate, tuition is pricey at $47,000 annually. Plus, "most graduates earn around $44,000 per year ten years after enrollment." So the price may not be justifiable.

Next is Marquette University in Milwaukee, ranked 40th.

Not only is it the 9th most dangerous campus in the country according to Insurify, but it's also expensive. Tuition is $39,000 per year, so that price may not be worth it.

Ranked 39th is the entire University of Wisconsin system.

Of course, the main campus is in Madison. The big issue here is the decisions made by leadership recently, specifically recording freedom of speech. Avocado Post writes, "the president reprimanded a faculty member over their choice of speakers for a sex education course, followed by an intense audit, it signaled a worrying trend." This, naturally, is causing a lot of concern.

And finally, ranked as the 3rd worst college in the country, is Northland College in Ashland.

The average 10-year salary for graduates is only $37,400. After getting a 4-year degree, that's not good. Tuition is almost the same cost as how much graduates make, at $36,183 per year. And to add to that, the graduation rate is only 46%.
