I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I love how creative we Minnesotans get at creating fun in the cold of winter.

Another fun winter activity just popped up a little over an hour from Rochester, but it appears it'll be open for a limited time.

Skate Trail Open in Hastings, MN

This new activity is an ice skating trail through some forest in Hastings! It's only a 3/4 mile long loop, but what a cool thing to do in the middle of winter.

This trail was set up for Hockey Day Minnesota, which is currently going on in Hastings. (Hockey Day, if you don't know, actually extends over one week, and teams face off in games of outdoor hockey.)

The skate trail is open to the public, even though it's a part of Hockey Day Minnesota, but you'll need to plan accordingly.

Ice Skating Trail in Minnesota

Hockey Day Minnesota only goes through Saturday, January 24th. I'm not sure if that means the trail will be closed off after that, but just in case, I'd suggest hitting up the trail this week if you're interested.

I don't see why the trail couldn't stay open as long as it's cold enough for the ice to stick around, but I haven't seen any official dates from my research. Also, you'll need to bring your own skates.

As for getting there, it's located at 15211 Ravenna Trail in Hastings.

Based on a video from taytakesatrip on Instagram, you'll need a pass for Hockey Day Minnesota to access the trail, plus a parking pass. Or, you can park at TI Casino and take a free shuttle over to Hockey Day. Tickets to Hockey Day vary in price depending on the day.
