Each passenger is treated to a holiday wine flight from Door Peninsula Winery, a Wisconsin favorite known for its easy-drinking blends and festive flavors.
The wine is paired with trays of cheese, meats, and crackers, plus a few other light bites that make it feel like a cozy tasting event on the rails. If wine isn’t your thing, there’s also a full cash bar with cocktails and local favorites.
The inside of the train looks like it rolled straight out of a Christmas movie. The ride includes soft holiday music, themed decorations, and a chance to toast with Santa himself.
This year, the Holiday Wine Train will again run alongside the railroad’s popular Santa Pizza Train but now features a new adults-only lounge car for a quieter, more relaxed experience away from the little ones.
It's a beautiful ride on the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad through the snow-covered pine forests of northwestern Wisconsin, with magical winter forest views you just can’t get from your car.
The 2025 Holiday Wine Train runs Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from November 14 through December 21, with tickets priced at $75 per person. Booths for two and tables for four are available, making it just as perfect for date night as it is for a small group outing.
Trains depart from N6639 Dilly Lake Road in Trego, and rides tend to sell out early, which makes sense, because who wouldn’t want to sip wine and watch the snow fall from a cozy vintage train car?
Looking for something the whole family can enjoy? The Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad also runs a Christmas Pizza Train with Santa, complete with pizza, cocoa, and a visit from the big guy himself.
