Rochester Murder Suspect Back in Custody on Drug Charges
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester murder suspect who was released on $1 million bond earlier this year is back in custody.
Rochester Murder Suspect Arrested Again on Drug Charges
The Olmsted County Adult Detention Center website indicates that 32-year-old Ibrahim Abdi was booked into the facility late Monday afternoon. He is being held on suspicion of first-degree drug sales and possession.
Also Arrested on New Felony Charges Earlier This Month
Earlier last month, court records indicate that Abdi was charged with third-degree drug sales involving allegations that he sold 2.6 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant working with Rochester Police Department investigators. Following his arraignment on the charge, he was released after posting a $40,000 bond.
Abdi was also charged with felony DWI and drug possession following a traffic stop on August 8. The criminal complaint says oxycodone pills and another prescription medication were found in his possession, along with what was described as a large amount of cash and a digital scale. It was also alleged that a mixture of fentanyl and cocaine was discovered inside his body when he was searched at the Olmsted County jail.
Prosecutors sought hearing over suspect's release conditions
His arrest on Monday came just days after the Olmsted County Attorney's Office sent a letter to the presiding judge concerning difficulties in scheduling a hearing on a request to review his conditions of release. The letter states that the prosecution originally requested a review on August 10, but it was then delayed until August 26, and that hearing was subsequently canceled.
Prosecutors called suspect a significant public safety risk
The letter states: "The defendant presents as a significant public safety risk. He has been charged with Murder and while pending that charge, committed offenses of Felony DWI and Controlled Substance Crime in the Third Degree for the sale of fentanyl, both behaviors that commonly kill innocent members of society. The State views it as imperative that its motion be heard as soon as possible to address the public safety risk that the defendant poses."
Posted $1 Million Bond in Rochester Murder Case
Abdi was charged in 2025 with a fatal shooting at a Rochester apartment complex. He faces two counts of second-degree murder, one count of second-degree assault and a charge of illegal possession of a firearm in connection with the shooting death of 35-year-old Sadik Yusuf at the Villages at Essex Park apartment complex in northwest Rochester on July 3, 2025.

Accused of Shooting Victim in the Neck
The criminal complaint alleges that Abdi shot the victim in the neck during a confrontation that a witness indicated was "over money and disrespect." According to the charges, the witness told investigators that he saw Yusuf take a bag of marijuana from Abdi, who responded by pulling out a gun and shooting Yusuf.
Abdi is currently scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Thursday.
