Last Minute Plea Deal Cancels Trial in Rochester Stabbing Case
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A jury trial that was scheduled to begin tomorrow in a Rochester stabbing case has been canceled due to a last minute tentative plea agreement.
38-year-old Larnell Williams today filed a petition to plead guilty in Olmsted County Court. He has agreed to admit to a third-degree assault charge in exchange for the dismissal of a second-degree charge.
Williams was arrested last May following a stabbing at the Parkside Mobile Home Park in southeast Rochester. The Police officers who responded to the scene found a 32-year-old man outside of one of the residences with a non-life-threatening stab wound.
The criminal complaint alleged the stabbing stemmed from an altercation inside one of the mobile homes. Williams told police he was sleeping when he heard someone banging on his door and encountered a man he knew only by his last name.
The court document says witnesses told investigators that the victim and Williams were fighting in the living room and the altercation ended when Williams stabbed the man in the abdomen. Williams told police the man began attacking him and that he held the knife at the victim to defend himself while attempting to flee.
