Man With Knife Killed by St. Paul Police
A news release issued by the St. Paul Police Department says officers responded around 5 PM Saturday to a report of a man threatening people with a knife in a community room of an apartment building. Witnesses directed them to a first-floor hallway when the officers arrived at the scene.
The officers found the man with a knife in his hand and attempted to convince him to drop the weapon. The news release says the man advanced towards the officers, who retreated before one officer used a Taser and another officer opened fire with his handgun.
The initial report indicates medics with the St. Paul Fire Department were called to administer first aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the officers involved were injured.
St. Paul police officials say the officers were equipped with body cameras that were recording during the deadly confrontation. The officers involved have been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
