Developing: Fire Sends Large Smoke Cloud Onto Rochester Freeway
Oronoco, MN (KROC-AM News)- Fire crews in Olmsted County are battling dry conditions and heavy wind during a warmer-than usual February morning firefight.
The fire is burning north of Rochester and has sent a large cloud of smoke in the air. Limited information is available, however MnDOT traffic cameras are picking up a sizable cloud of smoke.
The smoke drifted westward over to Hwy. 52 and appears to be impacting visibility along a stretch of the four-lane highway. Emergency dispatch communications indicate the fire is occurring near Oronoco.
Traffic camera images indicate the smoke is coming from a fire east of Hwy. 52 between the 75th St. Northwest/Hwy. 63 exit and the County Rd. 112 exit in southern Oronoco.
Dispatch traffic indicates tanker trucks from multiple fire departments are at the scene. No other information is available.
