Undated (KROC-AM News)- Officials southeastern Minnesota are encouraging residents to document property damage suffered from recent flooding.

Last month heavy rainfall caused severe flooding that devastated much of southern Minnesota

It swelled multiple rivers and resulted in flooding in downtown Spring Valley, caused the partial failure of a dam in Blue Earth County and prompted MnDOT to close multiple major roadways.

The Biden Administration approved a disaster declaration for 22 Minnesota Counties last weekend. Fillmore, Wabasha, Goodhue, Freeborn, Rice and Steele Counties were among those deemed eligible to receive federal assistance.

Gov. Tim Walz’s request for a major disaster declaration listed 42 of the state’s 87 counties. 

Mower & Goodhue County Flood Victims Encouraged to Apply for Assistance Dollars

Despite being excluded from the federal disaster declaration, officials in Mower County are asking residents to document their property damage for the chance to receive individual assistance.

Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik says the sheriff’s office and Mower County Emergency Management are assisting the Minnesota Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management with collecting property damage for individual assistance to cover repair costs for home and property.

Mower County residents who suffered flood damage are asked to fill out a form that can be found by clicking here

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office is also asking residents to share information if their home or property was damaged by the high water.
