That’s according to a news release issued by the Rice County Attorney’s Office. The charges were filed in Rice County Court on Monday.
The news release says the Department of Corrections Office of Special Investigation learned of a plot to smuggle drugs into the state prison in Faribault on September 3.
Charges: Corrections Officer Brought Meth, Pills into State Prison in Faribault
Authorities learned an inmate was set to receive the drugs around 2:30 on the afternoon of September 3 while he was getting a haircut in the prison’s gymnasium.
A review of live security footage captured in the gym showed an apparent exchange between the inmate and 43-year-old Lindsey Melissa Adams of Farmington, the news release says.
Prison staff detained the inmate and prison supervisors confronted Adams. The news release says Adams initially denied having a role in the scheme then admitted to having 101 anti-depressant pills and nearly half an ounce of a rock-like substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.
Adams said she was approached by an individual the week prior to the alleged plot at a local gas station and said she gave the person her phone number.
She said she got the suspected meth from the individual the day before authorities thwarted the alleged drug smuggling plot, officials say.
A review of Adams’s phone found a text message in which she told the individual she would bring in the pills, but refused to smuggle the meth into the prison, the news release says.
Adams has been charged with third-degree possession of methamphetamine as well as introducing contraband into a state correctional facility. She’s due to make her first court appearance on Wednesday.
The name of the inmate involved in the case has not been released.
