Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A convicted felon from the Twin Cities has been sentenced to 100 days in jail for trying to elude local law officers earlier this year.

46-year-old Darnell Dion Hamilton recently entered a guilty plea to a charge of fleeing a police officer. Under his plea agreement with Olmsted County prosecutors, that charge was reduced from a felony to a gross misdemeanor, and two misdemeanor traffic-related offenses were dismissed.

Hamilton was arrested following an incident in October. The criminal complaint says the St. Paul man was pulled over by an Olmsted County Sheriff's Deputy who had spotted him behind the wheel of a vehicle with stolen license plates. The court document says Hamilton initially stopped but then drove away.

The charges say that triggered a significant search effort in the area of North Broadway and 37th Street Northwest involving multiple law enforcement officers. Eventually, the suspect vehicle was found abandoned a few blocks away and a deputy involved in the search found license plates registered to Hamilton inside it.

Court records show Hamilton has multiple felony convictions involving stolen vehicle cases and police chases in the Twin Cities.
