Chickens Lost in Rural Rochester Fire
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester firefighters fought a fire that had caught onto two sheds Sunday morning.
A news release from the Rochester Fire Department (RFD) says crews responded to the fire at an address in the 4400 block of 77th Ave. Southeast in Marion Township. The caller reported their neighbor’s livestock shed had caught fire shortly before 7:30 a.m.
Responding crews reported a 10 foot by 20 foot shed was fully engulfed in flames and that the fire had spread to a nearby 25 foot by 50 foot shed. Firefighters took two attack lines and quickly extinguished the fires, using water transported to the rural scene by RFD tankers trucks and the Eyota Fire Department, the news release says.
A chicken coop housed in the smaller shed was deemed a total loss, while the larger shed suffered what was described as moderate damage. Officials say no people were hurt, however 10 chickens perished in the fire.
The RFD estimates the damage at $25,000. The cause of the fire is not available. The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office also responded to the fire.
