Duluth, MN (KROC-AM News)- Law enforcement has apprehended a man who was wanted for murder and several other crimes in Minnesota.
He was taken into custody by the Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force. A news release issued Thursday by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says the arrest happened on Wednesday.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 41-year-old Justin Dean Stauffer. The news release says Stauffer had an active arrest warrant for third-degree murder, a charge typically leveled against a person accused of selling drugs that led to a victim’s drug overdose death.
Along with the murder count, Stauffer was also wanted for felon in possession of a firearm and drug possession. In all there are 18 St. Louis County cases pending against Stauffer, the news release says.
The task force arrested Stauffer in a residential area in southwestern Duluth. He was reported to have been uncooperative with law enforcement upon first contact but was eventually taken into custody without incident, the news release states.
As of Friday morning Stauffer is being held without bail on five felony drug charges along with the murder and firearm possession counts, according to St. Louis County Jail records.
