Minnesota has been a destination for filmmakers to make Christmas moves the last few years, with films like "Merry Kiss Cam" and "Rescuing Christmas" being made in the Duluth area.

Thankfully we're not being pigeonholed as a destination for festive holiday films.

A new award-winning horror movie shot in Minnesota has just hit streaming platforms, just in time for the Halloween season.

The 90-minute film is described by reviewers as a "gothic-style" horror movie that includes nods to classic horror films like "Paranormal Activity" and "The Exorcist".

The plot revolves around a young man named Gabriel who follows his girlfriend Emma to an estate she's set to inherit from a deceased family member. Once they arrive, they are met with some specific stipulations in order to receive the inheritance.

While there, they encounter personal demons and the occult and are "forced to kill to survive against demons both real and imagined".

Here's the trailer:

Written and directed by St. Paul native Nicholas Bain, it stars Guillermo Blanco as Gabriel and Corrinne Mica as Emma.

The film won several awards after making its premiere at the Twin Cities Film Festival, winning awards like Best Feature Film at the Romford Horror Festival, Latitude Film Awards, and Bestlov Festival as well as Best Visual Effects at the Los Angeles Crime and Horror Festival.

Another movie film critic calls it a "component horror film" though he says it isn't particularly scary. Despite that, the acting gets props, especially the lead actor for his performance as Gabriel. They say the storyline and writing are also well-built, but it just doesn't have that extra "horror pop" to make the movie truly scary.

Scary or not, if it's just creepy and the acting is good and the story is good, it sounds interesting to me!
