Residents of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan will have something in common to start this week and while it may be startling to those who aren't sure what's going on in the night sky, there is no need to panic.

In fact, if you happen to hear rumblings in the sky after sunset, it's for a great reason and one that will help provide safety and security.

The 148th Fighter Wing has stated in the past that night flying is important as it allows pilots to become more proficient while training for future missions. While they understand the concerns some residents may have around the practice, it truly is for the greater good and never lasts for an extended amount of time.

When Will The 148th Once Again Be Conducting Night Flying?

The 148th Fighter Wing announced Monday through its Facebook page that they are conducting night flying Monday, April 15 through Thursday, April 18. Pilots will be conducting Close Air Support (CAS) missions while partnering with Joint Terminal Air Controllers (JTACs) on the ground for an Air Force Special Tactics integration training event.

Who Might Hear This Training Event?

The 148th Fighter Wing says that residents near the Duluth International Airport, northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan may hear F-16s taking off, flying, and landing during the late afternoon and evening this week.

They also expect that all the F-16s involved in this training will be back on the ground by 10:30 p.m. each night.
