Walker, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating an officer-involved shooting in a small northern Minnesota town.

A news release issued today by the Walker Police Department says an officer was flagged down by a resident around 6:40 Friday evening and told that a man wearing only boxer shorts was acting erratically. The statement indicates the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around the same time reporting that a man matching the same description was in front of a business carrying a knife and that several vehicles in the area had punctured tires.

Walker Police said the responding officer located the man, who ran to a nearby Dollar General store and threatened to kill all of the employees. When the officer encountered the suspect inside the business, the man sprayed bug spray and threw items at the officer before charging at him with a knife after ignoring repeated commands to drop the weapon.

That’s when the officer fired one shot from his gun, striking the man in his left arm. A news release says the officer immediately provided medical aid before an ambulance crew transported him to a hospital in Bemidji, where he was treated for what is believed to be a non-life-threatening injury.

The Walker Police Department says the officer was wearing a body camera, which was recording. The officer has been placed on standard administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
