Walker, MN (MinnesotaNow) - Authorities in northern Minnesota are investigating a boating fatality.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the deadly incident was reported on Leech Lake shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Sheriff Bryan Welk says deputies responded to reports of a boat crashing into rocks along the shoreline on the south side of the lake near Walker City Park.

A news release says that when law enforcement and emergency responders arrived, they found a 2016 Regency Tri-Toon boat that had crashed on the shore. Inside the boat, they discovered a 59-year-old Cass Lake woman who was unresponsive.

The sheriff says she was removed from the watercraft and given medical aid before being transported to the Walker Airport, where she was pronounced dead. She was the only person on the boat at the time.

Her name has not been released. The news release says the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
