Is It Hard to Brew Your Own Beer?

With my love of craft beers, home brewing is something I've always wanted to try. It looks like a pretty involved process and I suppose it should be if you want it to be good.  I've got a couple friends that brew their own and I guess I've never really tried someones home brew.

Then I saw this machine.

It looks like they take the work out of it but according to one of my friends, that's the fun of it. The whole process, he says, is what he enjoys.
