How to Watch ‘Sold Out’ – a Movie Set and Filmed Here in Minnesota
If you're looking for something to watch over the holidays, this movie set in-- and filmed-- here in Minnesota is now streaming online.
There have been several holiday movies that have been filmed here in Minnesota and western Wisconsin over the past couple of years. Like 'A Christmas Wish in Hudson,' which shot on-location over the river in Wisconsin back in February and is streaming right now on The Roku Channel. There was also the 2020 Lifetime movie 'The Christmas Listing,' which filmed its scenes at the Erickson Farmstead in Isanti.
But while those two movies are in the holiday genre, a new independent movie by two native Minnesotans is now streaming on Amazon Prime. It's called 'Sold Out' and the movie is set-- and was filmed-- here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
Sold Out first premiered earlier this fall at the Twin Cities Film Fest. According to the movie's website and trailer (which you need to watch below) here's what it's about:
“Sold Out” is a music-based drama about a female talent scout who takes a down-on-his-luck construction worker under her wing and helps him rise to his potential as a singer/songwriter.
This Sun-Sailor story notes that the movie was produced by Minnetonka couple Susan Brightbill and her husband, Tim Dahlseid, who both previously worked in the film industry in Los Angeles before moving back here to Minnesota to work on their first feature film.
While Brightbill had written the script 15 years ago, they ended up shooting Sold Out on-location in Excelsior (with some other interior shots of Mortimers in Minneapolis) during our way-cold winter of 2018-19 over 22 days, right in the middle of one of our bouts with the Polar Vortex, when lows hit 40 below, the story noted.
Since its debut on the big screen back in October, Sold Out is getting some great reviews! You can check it out (which I plan to do this weekend) by streaming it on Amazon Prime.
Of course, Minnesota has also been home to some pretty big Hollywood productions back in the 90's. Do you remember which movies were filmed here? Keep scrolling to check them out!
