There is supposedly a cure for the hangover. And no, we're not talking about the sequels to the original Hangover movie. There is no cure for that.

We're talking about the original hangover feeling. The actual "I drank too much" hangover. Or the "I said yes to that shot when I should have said no" hangover.

When that happens, it's usually because people forget that they're older and can't do that anymore. As we get older, hangovers become more and more a thing of the past. It's of course because we learn what does and doesn't work.

  • You discover the types of alcohol you can and can't drink, or mix together.
  • You learn to drink plenty of water before, during, and after consuming alcohol.
  • You learn not to drink on an empty stomach and make sure you eat certain foods that absorb alcohol better.
  • You learn to pace yourself.

But for the older (and wiser?) folks, there are still those moments, of occasional stupidity, when it happens. You slip and go back to those 'good old days.'

When that happens, you rely on the old stand-by's. Those things that other people told you would work to cure that hangover. Or maybe it's something that kind of worked for you in the past. And while they might have made you feel a little better, it never cured the hangover.

Some of those "hangover cures" are:

  • Sleep as long as you can
  • Eat greasy food
  • Take an aspirin
  • Drink water

Now there's something that might actually work.

Researchers in Finland (it's a big drinking country, Minnesotans can relate) discovered that a specific amino acid called L-cysteine helps with nausea and headaches that go with a hangover. It also relieves stress and anxiety and is good for nails, hair, and skin.

Does it work? I'm not sure. I've never tried it. But you can buy it from wherever you buy your vitamins and supplements and try it for yourself. But hopefully, you won't have to.
