Heavy Rain in SE Minnesota – More On The Way

Heavy rain fell in parts of Fillmore, Houston and Winona counties last night and this morning. Totals from yesterday through mid-morning were as high as 2 - 4 inches in some areas. Lesser totals are being reported in Olmsted County with about a third of an inch at the Rochester airport as of 10 a.m.

But more rain is expected, which means the current flooding problems may linger longer. The Mississippi River continues to rise from Red Wing to Winona and may remain high through the July 4th weekend.

The National Weather Service says periods of storms through the weekend and possibly into Monday could dump heavy rain on the region.

The heavy rain in Fillmore County led to a mudslide this morning on Highway 250, about two miles north of Lanesboro.  MNDOT workers were still removing the mud as of noon today but the road remains open.
